FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE\n\nThe International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has launched the Digital Trade Standards Initiative (DTSI), a comprehensive programme to standardise and accelerate the adoption of digital trade documentation globally. The initiative launches with 40 major international banks and 12 national governments as founding participants, representing a combined annual trade finance volume of approximately $3.2 trillion.\n\nThe programme will develop interoperable standards for electronic bills of lading, digital letters of credit, e-certificates of origin, and other core trade documentation. Standardised formats will allow documents issued on one digital platform to be accepted by counterparties using different platforms, addressing the current fragmentation that has slowed adoption of individual digital solutions.\n\nICC Secretary General John Denton: "Paper-based trade documentation costs the global economy an estimated $6.5 billion annually in processing costs, delays, and fraud. Digital transformation of trade documentation is long overdue, and standardisation is the key that unlocks it."\n\nThe initiative will publish its first set of draft standards for public consultation in the third quarter, with final standards expected by year-end. Implementation guidance for banks and corporates will follow in early next year.\n\nFor more information: www.iccwbo.org/dtsi
